Greetings! It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Product Lifecycle
Management Alliance
(PLM Alliance). The PLM Alliance is an inter-disciplinary research
center at the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, focusing on fundamental and applied
research on PLM. A
new and rapidly evolving field, PLM has deep roots in product
development and solid
modeling, manufacturing and logistics, and information science. The
University of
Michigan faculty have made significant contributions in each of these
PLM fundamental
areas. The PLM Alliance brings together faculty and students from
engineering, computer
science and business, together with industry partners, to develop,
define and research
key concepts in PLM. Funded by federal agencies and industry partners we
are also
involved in standards work for PLM. The PLM Alliance seminars bring
academic and industry
leaders to campus to speak on the research and applications of PLM. The
seminars are open
to the public. If you would like to receive notification, please join
our mailing list.
The PLM Alliance faculty introduce concepts, tools, processes and
benefits of PLM, as well as industry practices, in graduate and
undergraduate courses at the university. If your company is interested
in contributing to a PLM case study for use in our curriculum (e.g.,
highlighting your company's success with PLM) please contact us. The PLM
Alliance maintains strong international collaborations with academic
institutions in Europe (e.g., Cambridge University, University of Lyon,
Technical University of Berlin) and in Asia (e.g., Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Indian Institute of Science, Korea Advanced Institute of
Science & Technology). Through such collaborations we leverage
global resources and knowledge in PLM. We co-founded the premier international
PLM conference which brings together leading researchers and
practitioners of PLM, each year, to present results and shape the future
of this important field. Please visit our Events
page for details.
If your company is interested in joining the PLM Alliance please
contact
me. If you are a graduate or undergraduate student wanting to get
involved in PLM research projects, please get in touch as well. We have
projects for independent study and for thesis research.
In this era of intense global competition many companies are just
surviving. Some using PLM are thriving. The choice is clear.
Sincerely,
Deba Dutta
